North Texas is riding high after a key win over fellow SBC West division foe Arkansas State. With the win, the Mean Green improved to 8-5 in conference play, good for second in the West to the Red Wolves. Western Kentucky enters Denton following a big win over Troy. Like North Texas, the Hilltoppers are also second in their division and looking to keep pace with Middle Tennessee in the SBC East.
Sun Belt Scorcher
Alexis Hyder notched a career-high 23 points in the win over Arkansas State, which was coming off a career-high 16 rebounds in the win at Louisiana-Lafayette.The combined performances netted the freshman the first Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week award for the program this season. The double-double was the fifth of the year for Hyder. The 16 rebounds for Hyder are the most by a freshman at North Texas in a game since Talicia Sanders had 18 rebounds against FIU in 2005.
North Texas beat Arkansas State at the Convocation Center and knocked off UALR in Little Rock on January 9. This is the first time the Mean Green has swept the road series against the Sun Belt Arkansas schools since the 2000-01 season, an NIT year for North Texas.
The Road Less Traveled
The Mean Green has won four conference road games this season with three still remaining. The last time NT won more than four was in the 2005-2006 season when it won five.
