DENTON, Tex. (2/6/08) Tonight the North Texas women’s basketball team faces one of the beast from the East as they host Western Kentucky in a key Sun Belt Conference showdown. The Mean Green is entering its most crucial stretch of the season as they face off with Western Kentucky on Wednesday night before battling West Division leader UALR on the road. The Mean Green is only two games behind UALR and just a game and a half behind Arkansas State.
The Mean Green is looking up at four teams in the West, UALR, Arkansas State, ULM, and New Orleans, but plays each one of those teams once more before the year is out.
Amber Jackson’s consistency has been down right remarkable this season. She has scored in double figures in a career-best nine straight games and over the last three games has scored 16 points in each game. In fact Jackson might want to switch to the number 16 because she has scored exactly 16 points in six games this season.
Her past four games have been the best of the year for Jackson though as she is averaging 17.5 points a game and hitting 64 percent of her shots during that time. As a matter of fact Jackson has eight games this season where she has hit on better than 60 percent of her shots.
In association with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, North Texas Women’s Basketball will host Think Pink’ at the Super Pit on Wednesday February 6th. The North Texas athletic department is encouraging everyone to show up their support for breast cancer awareness by wearing pink attire to the game. Think Pink’ is a WBCA initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer support.
