North Texas Going After Its Fourth Straight Win At MTSU

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (1/26/08) Tonight it’s a battle of two of the hottest teams in the Sun Belt Conference as the North Texas women’s basketball team is looking for its fourth straight win when they visit Middle Tennessee. The Mean Green has won three straight games and has a tough challenge as they face the Blue Raiders who have won five of their past six games.

North Texas has won three straight games in the Sun Belt Conference for the first time since the 2004-05 season and is near the top of the Sun Belt Conference West Division standings. Three teams are in front of North Texas, but the Mean Green is only one game behind each ULM, UALR, and Arkansas State.

Jo Hall notched her second career double-double in the victory over FAU with 10 points and 12 rebounds. She also tied her career high with six assists.

Since the start of league play Hall has quietly flown under the radar but been one of the most consistent players in years. In Sun Belt play Hall if averaging 12.3 points and 7.6 rebounds a game. Overall her averages points to one of the best seasons in sometime at North Texas.

She is on pace to be the first player since 2004-05 to average 11 points and six rebounds a game. If Hall’s points reach 12 a game she will be the first player since 2001-02 to average 12 points and six rebounds a game. That was last done in a single season by current assistant coach Shannan (Stephenson) Fears.

Point guard Yari Escalera had her best week in a North Texas uniform. First she connected on a career high 15 points in the win over New Orleans and follows that up with a four assist night against FAU and for the first time this season she had no turnovers in a game. Over the last three games Escalera has an assist/turnover ratio of 2-1.

Tip off from the Murphy Center is set for 7 p.m.
