Amber Jackson Scores Career High In Loss To No. 19 Middle Tennessee

DENTON (1/24/07) Chrissy Givens scored 26 points to lead the No. 19 Middle Tennessee women’s basketball team to a 70-56 victory against North Texas on Wednesday night in the Super Pit.


North Texas (5-13, 2-6) trails the series with Middle Tennessee, 6-4. The Blue Raiders (18-3) have won 15 straight and are 10-0 in the Sun Belt.


North Texas scored 10 of the last 12 points of the first half to come within one point of the lead, 32-31, at the break. Middle Tennessee used a 18-2 run at the start of the second half to take control of the game, 50-33, with 14:33 left in the game.


Junior Amber Jackson scored a career high for the second straight game with 21 points, including 15 in the first half. She paced the Mean Green in the opening minutes, scoring the team’s first seven points. She also led the team on the boards, pulling down 12 rebounds.


Sophomore Jo Hall picked up the slack in the second half, scoring 13 of her 17 points, tying a career high.


With the Blue Raiders leading by 21 points, 58-39, Hall orchestrated a 14-5 run late in the second half to cut the deficit to 12 points, 65-53. Hall scored eight points in the spread. The Blue Raiders scored five of the last eight points to seal the win.


North Texas kept the game close in the first half, forcing Givens out of the game with three fouls. The Mean Green whittled MT’s 12-point lead down to one over the last seven minutes of the first half.


Middle Tennessee scored 32 points off NT’s 23 turnovers in the game.


Tricia Lee forced five of NT’s eight steals in the game, a career high for the sophomore. She also chipped in eight points.


North Texas returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 28 when it travels to Mobile, Alabama to face South Alabama.
