North Texas Falls To Arkansas-Little Rock 57-44

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (1/22/05) Arkansas-Little Rock used a 16-3 run in the second half to break open a tight game and defeat the North Texas women’s basketball team 57-44 from Trojan Fieldhouse. The loss drops North Texas to 3-2 in Sun Belt Conference play and 8-9 overall.


“This is a disappointing loss for us but you have to give them credit because they were able to make the plays when they needed to tonight,” said North Texas head coach Tina Slinker.


After leading at the break 25-24, North Texas moved in front of the Trojans 32-30 after a 3-pointer by Erika Bobo with 16:33 remaining in the second half. That’s when Arkansas-Little Rock exploded for a 16-3 run over the next 7:03 to take a 46-35 lead with 9:30 left in the game.


The run was keyed by sophomore Jocelyn Love who scored six of her game-high 26 points during the stretch.


The Mean Green had the Arkansas-Little Rock lead down to single digits at 46-37 with 8:13 left, but the Trojans were able to hold off North Texas by making nine free throws down the stretch.


North Texas shot just 25 percent from the floor and was held to only 19 percent shooting in the second half, while Arkansas-Little Rock rebounded from shooting 18 percent in the first half to shoot 42 percent in the second half.


Erika Bobo led North Texas with nine points, ending her streak of reaching double figures at eight games.


North Texas returns home to begin a two-game homestand on Thursday night against South Alabama.
