DENTON, Texas - After helping power North Texas to a 2-0 week, senior guard Denetra Kellum was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week today. The Mean Green knocked off FIU and Troy last week and Kellum averaged a double-double with nearly at 20 points and 11.5 rebounds in those two games.
She turned in perhaps the best final minute of play by a North Texas player at the free throw line ever against FIU. Kellum set a school record for her night from the line, going 14-for-14, which is the best-ever without missing a free throw in school history.
The 14 free throws were tied for the 4th most in school history. In the final 56 seconds of the game, Kellum went a perfect 10-for-10 from the line. She ended the night with 29 points, one shy of her career-high, but she did grab a career-best 14 rebounds to notch her fourth career double-double and the third of the season.
Against Troy, Kellum was one rebound shy of her first ever back-to-back double-double as she scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds. She shot 50 percent for the week from the floor at 12-for-24, dished out seven assists and had five steals.
