North Texas is riding a four-game win streak, its first since the 2007-08 team rattled of five
straight. The Mean Green is also on its first four-game conference winning streak since the 2001-02 crew that took five straight. North Texas created seperation between itself and Arkansas State in the West division with the victory over South Alabama. FIU has won three
of its last four and is led by Jerica Coley, a scorer averaging 23.8, 14 points higher than the second leading scorer on the squad.
Lights Come On During League Play
After notching only one win in non-conference play, the Mean Green has started off 5-2 in
Sun Belt action. This is tied for the best start through seven games for the Mean Green in conference play since joining the SBC in 2000. The 01-02 and 04-05 teams also share first
place with victories in four of their first six league games. Those two teams combined to
finish SBC play a combined 21-9.
Pouring On The Pressure
It is no secret that North Texas plans to press the entire game. In doing so, the Mean Green has held its opponents in the last two games to 17 points in the first half. The last time NT played that kind of the first half defense was the beginning of league play last season when it held ULM to 14 (1/15/12) and followed that up by suffocating Denver to just 16 (1/21/12).
Putting On The Sun Belt Shades
Seven games into conference play, the Mean Green is averaging 73.7 points per contest
against fellow Belt opponents. This is the highest points per game mark in conference
games since the 2001-02 team posted 76.3. The 73.7 is also tops in the league.
