DENTON -- For the second time this season, the North Texas women's basketball team is coming off a victory. For the second time this season, a win by the Mean Green broke a six-game losing streak. Now, with a victory over Charlotte tonight, the team can post its first winning streak of the season.

The Mean Green hosts the 49ers at the Super Pit January 15 at 7 p.m. The winner will improve to 2-2 in Conference USA play, while the loser will fall to 1-3. With such a drastic swing either way, it is easy to see why North Texas really wants to keep the momentum rolling.

One player in particular who has been crucial to the Mean Green's success this season is BreAnna Dawkins. The senior guard has started all 14 games and reached a season-high of 15 points twice; in each of North Texas' wins. On the flip side, Dawkins averages only 7.3 points in losses.

Over the past year, Dawkins has been through a lot, on and off the court. She went down with a gruesome knee injury December 4, 2013, against UT Arlington in the team's eighth game of last season. Just over a year later, Dawkins took to the Super Pit floor in a non-basketball setting; walking up on stage to receive her diploma upon graduating from North Texas.

Between Dawkins and another senior on the team, Briesha Wynn, the two have accumulated nearly 1,000 career points (972) in 96 career games. The two lead the Mean Green against the 49ers, whose leading scorer is a sophomore, Lefty Webster. The aptly-named guard is doing it all for Charlotte, averaging 12.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game this season.
