North Texas is coming off a resounding 16-point victory over the Trojans of Troy and is now .500 in conference play at 2-2. With the win, the Mean Green snapped a five-game losing streak that dated back to the Dec. 6 loss at Oklahoma. The Warhawks enter the match in a similar situation to North Texas with a below .500 record, but unlike NT, Monroe has yet to win a conference game.
North Texas meets ULM for the first time since last February, a battle to the end in what turned out to be a ULM overtime win. Overall, the Warhawks have controlled the series history with the Mean Green. ULM leads 29-8 all time against North Texas.
Stanley Steamer Is Back
Senior Sara Stanley returned to prominence with a classic double-double outing. She posted 23 points and 11 rebounds, the first double of the season and third of her career. She also had a highly-efficient game by not turning the ball over or committing a foul. The 23 points for Stanley against Troy were a career-high.
Freshman Loryn Goodwin got the third start of her career against Troy and nabbed four steals. With her current average of 3.88 steals per game, Goodwin is 10th in the nation in the steal category. At her current pace, Goodwin will top the North Texas record book in the steal category with 112 steals and shatter the current freshman record of 82 set by Ramona Black in the 1987-88 season.
Coming Out Of Hyding
Standout freshman Alexis Hyder is making her presence known. She posted a double-double against Troy and put up 18 for the second straight game tying her career-high output. Hyder currently leads the team in points per game with 13.1 despite being a young gun. Hyder has four double-doubles this season and the freshman record for most double-doubles in a single season is nine.
Putting Up Points
North Texas dropped 87 points on Troy, a season high for the unit. Going to the line a season high 38 times also helped. Of the 38 charity stripe attempts, the Mean Green knocked in 33 free throws, good for 5th most all time in a single game for the program. It was the most points in a game at home for North Texas since February 24, 2010.
