MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - A two-game road trip starts Wednesday night for the North Texas women's basketball team as they face the defending conference champions Middle Tennessee. North Texas is looking to end a three-game losing streak and pick up its first Sun Belt win of the season.
Tip-off from the Murphy Center is set for 5:30 p.m. and the game can be heard on 88.1 FM KNTU.
North Texas and Middle Tennessee will meet for the 16th time in school history. The Blue Raiders own the series edge over the Mean Green 13-4 and have won six straight games dating back to the 2006 season.
The last visit for the Mean Green to Murfreesboro went down in the record books as the Blue Raiders handed the Mean Green its worst loss in school history, 119-51. North Texas has lost the last three games to Middle Tennessee by 40 points or more. The last North Texas win over MTSU came in 2006.
North Texas grabbed a season-high 56 rebounds against Louisiana-Lafayette, which was the most rebounds since 58 against the Ragin Cajuns last season on February 24, 2010. The 56 rebounds are the second highest total in the Shanice Stephens era and only the third time in the last 83 games that North Texas has grabbed 50 rebounds or more.
For the second time in as many years Jasmine Godbolt and Denetra Kellum recorded double-doubles in the same game against Louisiana-Lafayette. Godbolt had 10 points and 11 rebounds for her 12th career double-double while Kellum had 15 points and 13 rebounds for her third career double-double.
It is just the third time since the 2005 season that two players have recorded double-doubles in the same game for North Texas.
