LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (1/04/06) Jocelyn Love and the UALR Trojans put the Mean Green women’s basketball team in an early hole and never looked back, topping North Texas 87-49 at the Jack Stephens Center.
Love racked up 15 points within the game’s first eight minutes, giving the Trojans a quick 26-9 advantage. UALR grew its lead to 45-18 at the break - NT’s largest halftime deficit this season. Love finished with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting.
“It was tough on us tonight. We couldn’t get in sync offensively, and to their credit they came out and made some early shots,” said head coach Tina Slinker.
North Texas, which hadn’t played in two weeks, had trouble shaking off the rust from its longest layoff since the 2002-03 season. The Mean Green shot a disappointing 31.8 percent from the floor, while the Trojans hit a blazing 63.8 percent.
The Mean Green was led by freshman Brittney James’ 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Tonight marks the fifth time this season James reached double-figures. Jo Hall wasn’t far behind, collecting 10 points of her own.
The Mean Green wraps up its nine game road swing on Saturday at Arkansas State. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m. following the North Texas men’s game versus the Indians.
