TROY, Ala. (1/3/08) The North Texas women’s basketball team is after a 2-0 start to begin Sun Belt Conference play as they face the Troy Trojans on the road tonight at 7 p.m. The Mean Green is coming off a 16-point victory over Denver to begin Sun Belt Conference play on December 22.
Following its win over the Denver Pioneers the Mean Green is off to another perfect start to begin Sun Belt Conference play. The Mean Green is 7-1 in league openers in the Sun Belt Conference since joining the league in 2000. Once in conference play North Texas has a record of 60-50 in eight years of Sun Belt competition.
Junior Jo Hall put on a performance to remember against the Denver Pioneers. She scored a career-high 25 points in the win and hit a staggering 84.6 percent of her shots. Hall’s point total is the highest of the season for a North Texas player.
She is just the third Mean Green player to score 25 points or more in the last 107 games for North Texas, which dates back to the 2003-04 season.
Amber Jackson and Jo Hall rank 9th and 10th in scoring in the Sun Belt Conference. UALR is the only other team besides North Texas to have two players rank in the top 10 in the league in scoring this season. In terms of field goal percentage Jackson is third in the SBC at 51.7 percent and Hall is ninth at 45.9 percent. NT is the only team that has two players in the top 10 in scoring and field goal percentage in the Sun Belt Conference.
North Texas posted a season-best shooting percentage of 54.9 percent against the Denver Pioneers. The Mean Green hasn’t shot that well from the field since shooting 58 percent against Middle Tennessee on February 8, 2006. It marks only the fifth time since the start of the 2002-03 season that North Texas has shot the ball 50 percent or better in a game. Including this season, that stretch covers 153 games.
