Leftovers: Mean Green Defeat Old Dominion
North Texas Notes Post Victory Over Old Dominion
DENTON -- The North Texas women's basketball team defeated the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs 65-55 at the Super Pit on Sunday to improve its record to 4-9 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. It was the program's 466th all-time victory and its second ever over Old Dominion.
The win is head coach Jalie Mitchell's 15th all-time, she is now tied with former Mean Green head coach Karen Aston. Mitchell was an assistant under Aston from 2011-12 at North Texas and 2012-2015 at the University of Texas.
North Texas has now won on New Year's Day in consecutive seasons. Both wins were by 10 points and at home. Last year, the Mean Green defeated UTSA 68-58 at the Super Pit. Sunday was only the third time ever the Mean Green had played on New Year's Day. They are 2-1 all-time on Jan. 1st games.
Redshirt sophomore Terriell Bradley led the way with 22 points and four Mean Green players finished the game in double figures as well. North Texas is 3-0 this season when four players score in double figures.
The Mean Green came away with the win by only having six players play 10 or more minutes. It was the fewest to play 10 or more minutes this season.
The Mean Green held the Lady Monarch's to 22 points in the second half. It's tied for the least points given up in a second half by North Texas. They gave up 22 points in the second half versus Texas State, two games ago, on Dec. 22, 2016.
The 25 points scored in the fourth quarter by the Mean Green are the second-most points they've scored in the fourth quarter this season. They scored 31 points in the final quarter against Incarnate Word.
