Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Missouri State, 85-79
Tac Scores Career-High 23 Points In Loss

DENTON, Texas - A furious rally by the Mean Green came up just short as the North Texas women's basketball team fell to Missouri State, 85-79, on Sunday afternoon at the Super Pit.
The Mean Green (5-7) lost its second straight game, while the Lady Bears (5-6) won its fourth straight and their first road victory of the season.
"We learn from these losses," said North Texas head coach Mike Petersen. "I can't erase them. That's part of trying to grow a program, part of trying to grow a team. If it was easy, there would be more banners hanging in this gym right now. We are on the right path, the right direction."
Janis Petersoncompleted a 3-point play to cut the Lady Bears lead to 80-78 with 27 seconds left to play in the game. North Texas was forced to foul, and the visitors made 5-of-6 baskets from the free-throw line to hold on to the win.
Peterson's 3-point play capped a 29-15 run by the Mean Green in the last 12 minutes of the game. The trio of Peterson, Acheil Tac and Candice Adamsscored 20 of NT's 29 points in the run. Tac led all scorers with a career-high 23 points, including 15 in the second period.
Down by 10 points at the half, North Texas dug itself into a bigger hole by letting the Lady Bears lead off the second period with a 15-6 run to take a 19-point lead, 50-31, at 15:16.
Tac led the Mean Green on a 12-5 run to cut the Lady Bears' advantage to 12 points, 55-43. Tac scored nine of the Mean Green's first 18 points of the second half. Peterson capped the run with her third 3-pointer of the game. She finished the game with 21 points.
After Missouri State brought their lead back to 17 points again, North Texas used inside play by Tac and 3-pointers to engineer a 23-8 run. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Desiree Nelsonand Adams cut the Lady Bears' lead to six points, 70-64 at 4:08. A second 3-pointer by Adams brought the Mean Green within three points, 74-71, at 2:33.
Missouri State scored 11 of the last 19 points of the game to seal the win. Nine of those points were from the free-throw line. The Lady Bears scored 30 of their 85 points from the free-throw line.
The first half started off with so much promise. Missouri State came out with a hot hand but so did North Texas. The Mean Green hit four of its first eight shots, including a 3-pointer by Peterson to take an 11-10 lead. Both teams were shooting above 50 percent for the first 10 minutes of the game.
Missouri State scored 12 of the final 16 points of the half to enter intermission with a 10-point lead, 35-25. Eleven of Missouri State's 35 points came from the free-throw line.

• Acheil Tac scored a career-high 23 points in today's game. It is her second straight game in double figures and her fifth this season. She scored nine of the Mean Green's first 18 points of the second half.
•Candice Adams scored a career-high 16 points in the win. It was her first game in double figures this season. She made two 3-pointers for just the second time this season.
