March 8, 2018

FRISCO - For the first time in program history, the North Texas women's basketball team advanced past the quarterfinal round of the Conference USA tournament with a 76-69 win over No. 3 seed Louisiana Tech on Thursday afternoon at the Ford Center at the Star. The victory is the Mean Green's first against the Lady Techsters all-time (1-12).

Trena Mims led the team with a career-high 19 points and tied her career-high with six rebounds. Terriell Bradley joined Mims in double-digits with 18 and also had six rebounds. Micayla Buckner recorded a team-high 10 rebounds.

North Texas hit four of their first five from the field to take an early 11-7 lead, but missed their next four attempts as LA Tech went on a 6-0 run. The Mean Green responded with an 8-0 run, led by Adrianna Henderson, who poured in six points in her first three minutes off the bench.

Henderson added a three-pointer as North Texas opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to increase the lead to double-digits at 28-18. After the Lady Techsters closed the deficit to six, the Mean Green found their touch from the field, hitting five of their next six to take a 15-point lead.

A pair of Trena Mims free throws gave North Texas a 41-29 lead headed into the break. Led by Henderson's nine, the Mean Green had five players with at least five points in the opening half.

North Texas, who forced just five first-half turnovers, turned three Brittany Smith steals into seven unanswered points to begin the second half. LA Tech turned the tables on the Mean Green with eight straight points off three UNT turnovers to make it 52-43. The Lady Techsters converted on six of their final eight attempts in the third quarter to close the Mean Green lead to seven at 57-50.

LA Tech inched closer in the final quarter, coming as close as four points as North Texas failed to make a field goal in the final five minutes. However, Mims, Bradley and Goodhart combined to go 12-of-12 from the free throw line down the stretch. Mims finished 9-for-9 from the charity stripe for the game.
