BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Senior Terra Ellison scored a career-high 21 points and had 10 rebounds as the North Texas women's basketball team won its first round Conference USA Championship game 65-62 over UAB in double overtime.

The No. 8 seed Mean Green (12-18) fell behind early after the No. 9 seed Blazers (15-15) made five first quarter 3-pointers. But a steady North Texas team led by Ellison's third career double-double took the lead in the second quarter.

The double overtime win is North Texas' fourth overtime win this season, they are undefeated in overtime games this season. All of their overtime games this season have come away from the Super Pit.

"I wanted it," Ellison said. "It was tough but I wanted it and I wasn't thinking about how tired was."

The Blazers jumped out to an early lead and led by one at the end of the first quarter behind freshman Rachael Childress' four first quarter 3-pointers. Childress was named the conference's freshman of the year on Monday and entered Wednesday's game with 90-made 3-pointers.

However, Childress made just one 3-pointer in the second quarter and was held scoreless from there on out.

"In the beginning of the game they were hitting a bunch of threes so at halftime that's where we made adjustments," Ellison said. "We did a great job at fixing those mistakes we made in the first half."

Down the stretch in regulation, North Texas let UAB creep back into the game as the Mean Green made just one of its final 13 shots.

At the end of the first overtime, the Blazers had a chance at the buzzer to win the game but a layup underneath the basket following a turnover along the baseline by North Texas was released a hair too late by UAB and was waved off, sending the game to a second overtime.

In the final overtime, UAB made just one field goal. Mean Green sophomore Terriell Bradley made late free throws to seal the win for North Texas. Bradley finished the game with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Wednesday marked the first time this season two Mean Green players had double-doubles in the same game.

The win is the Mean Green's 12th this season, which surpasses last year's total.

North Texas has now won its opening C-USA tournament game in consecutive seasons.
