BOCA RATON, Fla. – Despite three players in double figures scoring, North Texas could not complete the Sunshine State sweep as Florida Atlantic’s up-tempo offense overwhelmed the Mean Green on the road, 82-69.

“We didn’t play well enough on defense to win the game,” head coach Mike Petersen said. “We survived the first half, but in the second half late, they drove it right past us. We just couldn’t answer offensively.”

Coming out in a zone to begin the game, North Texas yielded 12 3-pointers to a hot Owls team in the first half.

Despite the exceptional shooting, the Mean Green kept pace with Florida Atlantic, scoring 38 of its points off of 63 percent shooting from the field.

Coach Petersen made an adjustment to begin the second half, sprinkling in man-to-man along with the zone, which limited the the Owls to just two second-half 3-pointers.

Utilizing the new adjustments, the Mean Green began the second frame on 12-4 run, but the Owls retaliated with 18-straight points late to bury North Texas.

The Mean Green saw three players score in double figures including sophomore Alexis Hyder’s team-high 16 points. Junior Briesha Wynn led NT on the glass with nine boards to go with eight points.

North Texas returns home for a date with Tulsa on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. in the friendly confines of the Super Pit.
