UNT Answers Call To Help Hurricane Recovery

Sept. 8, 2017

UNT Community,

As you are aware, many of our friends, colleagues and fellow Texans suffered devastating loss during Hurricane Harvey. You may have also heard one of our own, Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, opened his Gallery Furniture stores for evacuees and those in need. CBS did a story you can watch here.

Mattress Mack played football at UNT and has been a benefactor to the University over the years. On Wednesday, through his Twitter account, he made an urgent plea for people to consider donating bottled water and cleaning supplies to assist those helping with the cleanup.

We are going to answer the call. Drop-off of donations will be inside Gate 2 at Apogee Stadium from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday. Those supplies will be loaded onto a UNT truck and transported to Jim’s Gallery Furniture store in Houston where staff, coaches and student-athletes will unload them. Please consider donating water or cleaning supplies to the stadium for these relief efforts. If you'd rather make a cash donation to these efforts, call the Mean Green Club office at 940-369-7284. We will collect those donations and purchase items to include in the donation.

You can also make cash donations here via a website set up by UNT.

In times of hurt and devastation we must pull together. Texans have once again showed our compassion, strength, resiliency and resolve.
