North Texas Athletics Unveils Strategic Plan

Aug. 28, 2017

DENTON - Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Wren Baker announced the Mean Green Strategic Plan Monday. The plan serves as the roadmap for the future of the North Texas Athletic Department.

The plan is wide in its scope, reaching from fan interaction to department staffing, from athletics-campus relations to budgeting, from improving student-athlete nutrition to preparing student-athletes for life after college.

"I'm excited about our strategic plan and the initiatives we've identified to build on our program," Baker said. "The collaboration of everyone who participated in meetings and planning sessions helping forge the roadmap for the future is evidence of what we can accomplish working together. I look forward to working with all of our constituents to Build Champions and Prepare Leaders."

The Strategic Plan is built around the mission statement and core values the athletic department leadership team established several months ago:

Mission Statement
Building champions and preparing leaders through the pursuit of perfection in academics, athletics, and life.

Core Values
We value people and their growth; integrity; and success.

The plan expands on those themes and involves every aspect of North Texas Athletics. The detailed plan is divided into eight areas of focus:

  1. Student-Athlete Experience
  2. Pride And Tradition
  3. Fiscal Accountability And Transparency
  4. Invest In Excellence: Win With People
  5. Competitive Excellence
  6. Program Integrity
  7. Fan Experence
  8. Revenue Generation

Each of those areas of focus contains a number of goals, which are in turn subdivided into very specific targets.

To view the complete plan, see how it was built and who was involved, and to see the department's progress toward each goal, the athletic department has created a website, MeanGreenStrategicPlan.com. The site will be updated with details on the progress toward each goal.

"We've built a website that allows everyone the opportunity to review our plan and keep up with our progress," Baker said. "We believe being transparent about where we are headed as an athletic program engages and empowers our supporters."

This is the first of two major initiatives to be announced by Baker and North Texas Athletics this fall. The second, the Mean Green Athletics Facilities Master Plan is expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
