North Texas Announces Innovative Creative Advisory Committee
Committee Comprised Of Industry Experts With Ties To Mean Green
DENTON – The University of North Texas Athletic Department has launched a Creative Advisory Committee that will provide recommendations and expertise on a variety of external initiatives, including branding, marketing and creative content strategies, Vice President and director of athletics Wren Baker announced Thursday.
The committee is comprised of industry experts from across the country that have ties to UNT or familiarity with the Mean Green's history and tradition.
The committee recently held its first meeting on campus in preparation for the upcoming 2017-18 athletics seasons and to provide ideas from a fresh perspective and review various department initiatives. Athletics department staff attended the meeting to gather ideas and suggestions that can improve advertising, marketing, and the fan experience.
"I am excited to announce our new Creative Advisory Committee," Baker said. "I believe this unique committee will be a huge asset as we look to build on our brand and expand our footprint. The initial committee is comprised of highly talented individuals who have vast experience we can learn from. I am most appreciative of their willingness to give time, talents and energy in helping the athletic department achieve our goals."
The committee will serve as a resource that the athletics staff can reach out to throughout the year to gather additional feedback and discuss various industry trends. Future committee meetings will be held throughout 2017-18.
Leading the committee are North Texas alumni Graham Douglas and Ashton Campbell. Douglas has been listed by Forbes magazine as one of the top 30 under-30 for best young creative minds in marketing and advertising. He currently serves as the director of creative at Vimeo and has also been involved in branding and creative projects with Ford, Google, Pepsi, the NFL and more.
Campbell has extensive experience in creative video projects, most recently as the executive director of "Beyond the Green," which chronicles the personal stories of the North Texas football team. Campbell has also worked on projects for CBS Sports, The Big 10 Network and Yahoo Sports.
"It's not every day you get to sit in a room with an insanely diverse brain trust like this, especially to collaborate on something that you love and have a great passion for like I do with North Texas athletics," Douglas said. "It is going to be a special experience. There's a lot of talk about potential around Denton and it's refreshing to see some of that talk turn into action."
In addition to Douglas and Campbell, the Creative Advisory Committee members are:
- Becky Kimbro, Vice President of marketing, Texas Rangers
- Dan Dougherty, creative director at TM
- Brent Sorrells, director of clinical operations at ZS Pharma
- Patrick Cobbs, North Texas Hall of Fame member
