Dec. 17, 2013

DENTON, Texas  - Former North Texas standout golfer Carlos Ortiz earned a full exemption onto the Tour by finishing in a tie for 15th place in the final stage qualifying. Ortiz shot 17-under par in at the PGA West Stadium Course and has earned his card for the entire 2014 season on the Tour.

Ortiz shot three rounds in the 60’s and was under par in five of the six rounds in the tournament. Ortiz was a four-time all-conference player at North Texas from 2010-13 and helped lead the Mean Green to back-to-back conference titles in 2012 and 2013.

Another former Mean Green golfer, Cole Howard, was also attempting to earn his Tour card but was unable to as he finished 129th. He will enter the 2014 season with conditional status on the Tour.

The top-50 players earned full-time status on the tour and are eligible for all of the 2014 Tour events. The Tour opening event is the Panama Claro Championship February 21-24 and will be the professional debut for Ortiz.
