DENTON, Texas – North Texas men’s golf coach Brad Stracke announced on Wednesday the signing of Michael Cotton to a National Letter of Intent. Cotton, who hails from Katy Cinco Ranch High School, is rated the 16th best player in Texas and is ranked as the 152nd junior golfer in the world.
“Michael is a great ball striker, very long off the tee, and he is just so good in all facets of the game,” said head coach Brad Stracke. “He’s going to make a major impact for us and I’m thrilled to sign him and bring him into our program.”
Cotton is also ranked as the 80th best player in the class of 2014.
Cotton played in 10 events last season and scored one win, five top-10 finishes, and three top-five finishes and one win. He led Cinco Ranch to the Class 5A Region III, title and an 11th place finish at the UIL State tournament.
Cotton qualified for the 2013 U.S. Amateur this past summer. He also recorded top-10 finishes in American Junior Golf Association events last at The Woodlands and during the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio.
He is a three-time all-district player and was a second-team All-State selection in 2013. Cotton played in the UIL State tournament as a freshman, sophomore and junior. Cotton has also excelled in the classroom, where he has been a three-time academic all-district student.
