INDUSTRY, Calif. (11/9/01) - The North Texas men’s golf team dropped one place in the final round of action at the 49er Collegiate Classic on Friday, finishing tied for 14th place with a three-round score of 926 (314-303-309).
North Texas tied Utah for 14th place and finished ahead of Idaho and CSU-Northridge. TCU won the tournament with an 861, Toledo took second with an 873 and UC-Riverside shot an 883 to capture third.
Zach Atkinson led North Texas, finishing tied for 49th place with a 232. Michael Pruitt followed Atkinson with a 234 and finished tied for 54th place. Pruitt and Brad Besler both improved their scores with each round. Pruitt’s round-by-round scores were 81, 78 and 75 and Besler’s scores were 84, 77 and 74. Freddy Espericueta finished tied for 64th place, but shot a 72 for the second 18 holes to post the best single-round score by a North Texas golfer.
The tournament was the last Fall outing on the Mean Green’s schedule. North Texas will begin play in the Spring at the Rice Invitational, scheduled for Feb. 11-12.
