Thompson Tied For The Lead After The Opening Round

TOLEDO BEND, La. (11/5/06) True freshman Dustin Thompson blistered the field and is tied for first after the opening round of the Battle on the Bend to pace the North Texas men’s golf team.


Thompson is 1-under par with a 71 after firing an even-par front nine and a 1-under par back-nine. He is tied for the lead with Jeremey Jeansonne of McNeese State.


Thanks to Thompson’s opening round the Mean Green as a team is in the hunt, alone in seventh place, but just five shots off the lead with an opening round of 303.


“Dustin played outstanding golf today,” said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. “We just need to get a little more consistency from everyone out there and we will give ourselves and chance to win”.


Junior Anthony Broussard is tied for 22nd place with an opening round of 4-over par 76. Austin Welch is one shot behind with a 77 and Harris Graham posted a first round of 79. Wayne Bailey struggled in the first round with an 88.


North Texas continues second round play tomorrow at 8 a.m.
