Stracke Adds Former Mean Green Golfer Marco Scarola As Assistant Coach
South Africa Native Returns To Denton To Join Stracke's Staff
DENTON - North Texas men's golf head coach Brad Stracke made a very significant addition to the program Thursday, adding assistant coach and former Mean Green golfer Marco Scarola. Scarola rejoins the program after his time as a student-athlete in Denton from 2010-13, and a graduate assistant in 2013.
“I am excited to announce that Marco will be our first full-time men’s assistant here at North Texas,” head coach Brad Stracke said. “Marco has an ample amount of playing and coaching experience. I am looking forward to working with Marco again and I know he will help this program reach the next level.”
Scarola, a native of South Africa, was a part of the North Texas program when it became the first team in 40 years to win back-to-back conference championships in 2012 and 2013. The Mean Green also went to three NCAA Championships during Scarola’s time in Denton.
"To say that this opportunity means a lot to me would be a significant understatement," Scarola said. "It is an absolute dream to be back with the Mean Green family and I am honored to be alongside a remarkably experienced coach like Brad Stracke. Seeing the growth and impact that that he has made in such a short period of time is telling to the kind of coach that he is. I look forward to contributing to the continuous success of the program."
While earning his Master of Science degree earlier this year, he spent the 2014-16 seasons as a graduate assistant at Dallas Baptist University. He was a part of teams that reached the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Championships in 2016 for both the men’s and women’s programs and helped the 2015 women’s team to a national title.
North Texas is now finished with the fall season and resumes action at the SunTrust Gator Invitational on February 18 and 19 in Gainesville, Florida.
