RUSTON, La – Sophomore Gonzalo Rubio played a torrid 36 holes of golf for North Texas and has the clubhouse lead at 8-under par after the first day of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. Rubio was flawless in the second-round, shooting a 5-under par with five birdies, 13 pars and no bogeys on the round.
It topped Rubio’s first round where he shot a 3-under par 69. For the day Rubio posted 12 birdies. He holds a two-stroke lead heading into the final round as he goes after the first individual title of his career.
North Texas as a team is in sixth place after two rounds of play. The Mean Green shot rounds of 295 and 290, but are just five shots out of second place. Southern Miss holds a nine stroke lead after the first two rounds of play.
Juan Munoz shot back-to-back rounds of even-par 72 and is tied for 12th place. Munoz had three birdies in the first round and had an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole in the second round. Julien Marot is tied for 37th after rounds of 78 and 74. Nick Rodriguez is tied for 44th place after shooting a 76 and 77 while Cory Churchman shot a 79 and 77.
