Thompson Shines For North Texas At Squire Creek Intercollegiate

RUSTON, La. (10/17/06) North Texas freshman Dustin Thompson fired an even-par round of 72 in the first and final round of the rained shortened Squire Creek Intercollegiate to lead the Mean Green golf team.

 

Thompson shot a 2-under par 34 on the front nine and closed with a 38 to finish tied for 15th place. The 72 posted by Thompson is a collegiate career-low for the freshman.

 

The field of 18 teams played just one round today after the first day of play was rained out yesterday. The Mean Green as a team shot a 14-over par 302 and finished in 13th place.

 

Junior Austin Welch closed strong with a back nine score of even-par 36 and posted a round of 3-over par 75 for the day. Anthony Broussard was two shots behind with a score of 77 for the day. Harris Graham posted a round of 78 while Cole Howard came shot an 81 on the afternoon.

 

North Texas is back in action on Oct. 30-31 at CSU Countrywide Invitational in Simi Valley, Calif.
