SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Senior Rodolfo Cazaubon captured his second straight tournament title and his first outright crown by winning the Lone Star Invite while the Mean Green finished in second place as a team. Cazaubon won with a score of 4-under par 212, beating his teammate Carlos Ortiz, who finished tied for second, by two strokes.
Cazaubon had three birdies on the day and for the fall season recorded four top-20 finishes and two tournament titles. He won a share of the Graeme McDowell Shoal Creek Invitational three weeks ago.
North Texas entered the day with the lead, but No. 46 Houston shot a final round of 13-under par to pass the Mean Green and take the team title. North Texas shot a final round of 291 and finished four shots behind Houston.
Ortiz finished in second after a final round of 2-under par 70. He had four birdies and only two bogeys on the day as he finished in the red numbers for the tournament at 2-under par 214. It is the second straight top-10 finish for Ortiz and his best finish of the fall season.
Curtis Donahoe shot a 3-over par 75 in the third round and finished tied for 22nd. Freshman Gonzalo Rubio had his best score of the three rounds with a 1-over par 73 and ended tied for 33rd. Jason Roets finished with a third round of 74.
The Lone Star Invite concludes the fall season for the Mean Green as they will begin the spring season February 11-12 at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational.
