RUSTON, La. (10/15/07) Windy and wet conditions met the North Texas men’s golf team at the opening round of the Squire Creek Intercollegiate. A deep and talented field of 18 teams played only one round because of the weather the Mean Green struggled shooting an opening round of 304.
Senior Anthony Broussard led the way with a 3-over par 75. He shot a front nine of 37 and a final nine of 38. Cole Howard posted back-to-back 38’s to shoot a first round of 76.
Teammate Dustin Thompson also fired an opening round of 4-over par 76 while freshman Nathan Sheen, playing in just his second tournament of the season, was one shot behind with a 77. Harris Graham had a difficult opening round with an 84.
Mississippi is out in front with an opening round of 6-under par 282.
The second and third rounds will be played tomorrow starting at 8:30 a.m.
