ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Fueled by resurgent play from junior Carlos Ortiz, the North Texas men's golf team finished in a tie for fourth place at the William Tucker Intercollegiate. Ortiz, who had struggled in his first two tournaments, finished in a tie for third place individually at 1-under par 216.
Ortiz was even-par in the final round as North Texas shot a 297 and finished tied with Arizona for fourth place. The Mean Green finished ahead of No. 10 Colorado by 17 strokes. No. 11 UNLV won the tournament title by four shots over No. 15 New Mexico.
Rodolfo Cazaubon and Jason Roets finished in a tie for 18th place at 222. Cazaubon rebounded from a tough opening two rounds to post a 1-under par 71 in the final round.
Roets shot a third-round of 75 as he notched a top-20 in his first collegiate tournament. Marco Scarola had a final round of 79 while Juan Munoz shot an 80.
North Texas returns to action on Oct. 16-18 at the Lone Star Invitational.
