BURLINGTON, Iowa - It was a tough opening day for the North Texas men's golf team at the Golfweek Conference Challenge as the Mean Green is in 12th place after the opening 18 holes. North Texas shot a first-round of 9-over par 297 and trail the clubhouse leader Chattanooga after the opening round.
Three players for North Texas, Rodolfo Cazaubon, Curtis Donahoe, and Josh Jones all had the best rounds of the day with a 2-over par 74.
The trio is tied for 38th place after 18 holes. Cazaubon had three birdies in his round and Jones had two. Donahoe, after a 3-over par opening nine holes, rebounded with a 1-under par back nine capped off by an eagle on the 18th hole.
Freshman Juan Munoz is one shot back at 3-over par 75. Munoz had back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14, but three straight bogeys on 15, 16, and 17 put him at 3-over.
Carlos Ortiz opened with two birdies to start his round off on 1 and 2, but he would have no more birdies the rest of the day and six bogeys.
