LAWRENCE, Kan. (9/23/03)- A final round of two-under par powered the North Texas men's golf team to a second place finish at the Kansas Men's Fall Invitational at Alvamar Country Club. The Mean Green shot a 286 in the final day to take second place, four shots ahead of Wichita State.
Senior Zach Atkinson had the best round of the day with a four-under 68 to end the tournament at three-over par 221. Senior Brad Gibson had the best three-round score for the Mean Green with an even par total of 218.
"I was happy with the way that we played today," said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. "I told the guys that if they came out and shot under par today that we would finish in second and we did. It's good that we did because that means were on the right track".
Junior Reid McPherson shot a final round one-under par 71 and finished the tournament at two-over par. Thomas Kulcak and Weston Binghman had three-round scores of 221. Tournament host Kansas was the winner of the event with a three round score of 855.
The Mean Green are next in action on September 29-30 at the Baylor Invitational.
