LAWRENCE, Kan. (9/17/07) It was a sluggish start for the North Texas men’s golf team at the opening day of the Kansas Men’s Invitational from the Alvamar Country Club. The Mean Green shot a two-round score of 612 and sits in 14th place after the first day.
“We didn’t play very well in the first round and when you put yourself in a hole like that its hard to get out of,” said North Texas coach Jim Bob Jackson. “If we can play a better like we did during the second round we can move up, but we have to come out and compete better than we did today”,
Senior Cole Howard shot a 3-over par 147 and is tied for 10th place. Sophomore Dustin Thompson is two-shots behind with a 5-over par 149. Thompson and Howard both had the low rounds of the day for the Mean Green at 1-over par 73.
Anthony Broussard recovered from an opening round of 81 to shoot a second round of 76 to post a score of 157. Harris Graham is two shots behind at 150 and Austin Welch had a difficult afternoon with a 162.
The final round of the Kansas Men’s Invitational begins tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
