Mean Green Post 9-Stroke Victory in Classic

LANTANA, Texas (9/16/03) -- Three players finishing in the top 15 led the North Texas men's golf team to the team championship of the Mean Green Classic, which concluded Tuesday at the Lantana Golf Club.

Led by Brad Gibson's tie for fourth place individually with rounds of 70-71-74--215 on the par 72 course, the Mean Green finished with a three-round team total of 867 -- nine strokes ahead of runner-up Houston at 876.

Joining Gibson in the top 15 in the individual standings were teammates Zach Atkinson (T9, 70-72-75--217) and Thomas Kulcak (T15, 72-69-78--219). Mean Green newcomer Reid McPherson, playing as an individual, shot rounds of 73-69-75--217 to finish in a tie for ninth place.

The two-day tournament was North Texas' first of the fall portion of the 2003-04 season.  Trailing the Mean Green and Houston in the team standings were Louisiana-Monroe and McNeese State in a tie for third place (880) and Louisville and Washington State tied for fifth at 882.
