Mean Green Golf Falls Four Places In Final Day Of Play At Nebraska Tourney

Lincoln, Neb. (9/12/01) - The North Texas men’s golf team dropped from fourth place to eighth place in the final day of action at the Fairway Club Invitational (hosted by Nebraska) yesterday , recording a 309 for the third and final round.

North Texas finished the tourney with a total score of 901. The Mean Green’s final-round 309 was 16 strokes over its first-round 293. UNT shot a 299 for the second 18 holes.

Lamar University won the tournament with an 873. Missouri and Kansas State rounded out the top three finishers with scores of 877 and 888, respectively.

Zach Atkinson tied for 13th place to lead the Mean Green. Along with Brad Gibson, Atkinson posted a team-best single-round score of 72 on the opening 18 holes. Atkinson finished with a score of 222, while Gibson followed him with a 225, placing him tied for 25th individually.

The Mean Green will be back in action Oct. 5-6 at the 39th Fresno Lexus Classic, hosted by Fresno State Univ.
