Cazaubon Tied For Third After 36 Holes

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The opening day of the season for the North Texas men's golf team has them alone in sixth place after two rounds at the Gopher Invitational in a tightly packed leaderboard. North Texas is one stroke behind Iowa, two from SMU, and three behind Charlotte for third place after 36 holes.

Junior Rodolfo Cazaubon is tied for third place after a second round of 3-under par 69. Cazaubon started his second round with a double-bogey, rebounded after that with six birdies and only one bogey. He is four strokes off the lead. Cazaubon's 69 came on the heels of an opening round of 74.

Josh Jones had perhaps the most eventful day as he shot rounds of 75 and 74 as he is tied for 27th place after the first day.

Jones had two eagles on the day, one in each round, but a triple bogey on his first 18 holes and seven bogey's in his second round kept his score from being lower. Jones for the day had two eagles and four birdies.

True freshman Juan Munoz playing in his first tournament opened with an even-par round of 72. Munoz opened at 4-over par after his first four holes, but rebounded by playing the final eight holes at 5-under par to card the 72.

Munoz struggled though in his second round with a 6-over par 78 as he had only one second round birdie.

Munoz is tied for 30th place with teammate Curtis Donahoe. He shot a 1-over par 73 in his opening round with three birdies. His second round had three birdies but a quadruple bogey on the par-5 fifth hole shot his second round score up to a 5-over par 77.

Carlos Ortiz is tied for 37th place after rounds of 75 and 76. Ortiz had six birdies in two rounds but is at 7-over par for the tournament with a 151.

North Texas sits with a 590 after two rounds, 13 shots behind the clubhouse leader Notre Dame.  The final round begins tomorrow morning and live stats can be found at
