WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - North Texas senior Zach Atkinson's bid to reach the NCAA Men's Golf Championship fell just short in the final round of the NCAA Central Regional from Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex-Kampen Course.
Atkinson fired a final round 76 in blustery conditions and finished second out of the six individual players at the regional. Despite the strong finish only the top two individuals from teams not advancing to the championship advance.
"He really came out today and played well despite the conditions. I'm really proud of the way he played throughout this tournament," said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. "Zach is a great player and he's been a great competitor for us for so long now that we are really going to miss him".
Atkinson had two birdies on the day and started the front nine off strong with a 37. He followed that up with a birdie at 12 but ended with three bogeys on the final six holes to finish with a 76. Atkinson finished with a three-round score of 227.
Atkinson closes out his four-year career at North Texas as a two-time all-conference selection with 11 top 5 finishes, 1 tournament championship, and two NCAA regional apperances.
