DENTON, Texas - The North Texas men's golf team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2012-13 season. The Mean Green, the 2012 Sun Belt Conference champion, is set to play in nine regular season tournaments and defend its conference crown on April 22-24 at the SBC Championship.
North Texas, which finished the regular season last year ranked No. 28 in the nation, begins the fall season at the Gopher Invitational on September 9-10. From there the Mean Green will play in the Inverness Invitational for the first time in school history on Sept. 17-18. One week later North Texas plays at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate Sept. 24-25 and the Mean Green finish out the fall schedule at the Lone Star Invite October 14-16.
North Texas opens the 2013 spring season at the Oak Hills Invitational Feb. 11-12 in San Antonio before returning to the famed TPC Sawgrass Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida to play in the Sawgrass Intercollegiate two weeks later.
The Mean Green will play in The Schenkel Invitational for the first time in school history. The 34th annual tournament is scheduled to be played at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia.
The Sun Belt champions return to the "Fighting Joe" course in Muscle Shoals, Alabama to defend their 2012 conference title to finish out the regular season in late April.
The NCAA Regionals are May 16-18 and the NCAA Finals take place May 28-June 2 in Atlanta. North Texas is looking for its third straight appearance in the regionals and their first trip to the NCAA Finals in the modern era.
The senior laden squad returns six letterman from last year's team. Three-time all-conference players Carlos Ortiz and Rodolfo Cazaubon led the team along with senior's Curtis Donahoe and Marco Scarola. Sophomore's Juan Munoz and Jason Roets both played key roles last season and will be counted on heavily this year.
