Throwback Thursday: Men's Golf Earns At-Large Bid To NCAAs
Mean Green Sports Revisits Some of the Year's Biggest Highlights
It's Throwback Thursday and MeanGreenSports.com is revisiting some of the most notable moments of the 2015-16 North Texas Athletics calendar.
For this week's installment of the series, we take a look back at the men's golf team receiving an at-large bid into the 2016 NCAA Regional for the second time in school history under head coach Brad Stracke.
The North Texas men's golf team finished third at the Conference USA championship before falling in the semifinals of match play to eventual champion LA Tech. The Mean Green were announced as an at-large team in the Tucson Regional live on Thursday morning drive on the Golf Channel back on May 5.
It marked the fifth NCAA regional appearance under Stracke and the 35th all-time in the history of the program. The Mean Green were ranked No. 62 in the nation according to Golfstat.com rankings and were able to receive one of 41 at-large bids.
Fourteen teams, including nine in the top-50, competed for the right to advance to the NCAA Championship. North Texas finished the three-day NCAA regional in 10th place as Stanford, Oregon, UAB, California, and Wake Forest advanced to the NCAA finals.
