Ian Snyman Qualifies For U.S. Amateur
Junior Finishes -9 At Lantana To Grab Spot In August Tournament
LANTANA, Texas – North Texas junior Ian Snyman qualified for the U.S. Amateur after his two-round, nine-under-par performance at the Dallas-Fort Worth Qualifier at Lantana Golf Club. Snyman finished in second place to seize one of the three coveted qualification spots for the tournament.
“It’s nice to see Ian play well at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier,” North Texas head coach Brad Stracke said. “Nine-under for 36 holes at Lantana is a great performance and I am looking forward to watching him play in California.
The South African native posted a two-round score of 135, just three shots off the pace. His first round saw him fire a five-under 67 on the par 72 course Monday. He then followed that with another strong round, carding a 68.
He will join fellow Dallas-Fort Worth qualifiers Matthew Perrine (-12) and Blake Elliott (-8) at the U.S. Amateur Aug. 14-20 split between two Southern California courses, The Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades and the Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles.
The tournament gets underway with the Round of 64 matches live on Fox Sports 1 on Wednesday, Aug. 16, from 4-7 p.m. CT. Fans can also watch the Round of 32 (via live stream on USGA.org from 1-3 p.m.) and the Round of 16 (on Fox Sports 1 from 5-8 p.m.) on Thursday, Aug. 17. Quarterfinal matches take place on Friday, Aug. 18, live on Fox Sports 1 from 5-8 p.m., while the semifinals can be seen live on Fox from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19. The Championship match begins with an 18-hole round in the morning on Sunday, Aug. 20, with a live stream on USGA.org from 11:30-1:30 p.m., and concludes with a second and final round in the afternoon on Fox from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
