DENTON - Sophomore Cory Churchman of the Mean Green men's golf program earned a spot in the U.S. Amateur Golf Tournament after winning the amateur qualifier over 27 other contestants on July 14 in Lubbock, Texas.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment for Cory and validation for him that the work he put in with our team in the last year is paying off," said men's golf coach Brad Stracke. "Cory earned a perfect 4.0 GPA this spring while playing in 10 tournaments, he is the definition of a student-athlete and I'm proud he will be representing our program in the U.S. Amateur."
Churchman led the way with a 67 and 68 for a 36-hole total of 135 at the Ross Rogers Mustang Course.
In his freshman year with the Mean Green, he finished in the top-15 in one event and was the third-lowest score for North Texas in the C-USA Championship.
