Welch Named To The Academic All-District Team




DENTON (5/24/07) For the second consecutive year junior golfer Austin Welch was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

 

Welch, an accounting major, is the first North Texas men’s golfer to be named to the ESPN The Magazine academic all-district team in back-to-back years.

 

Welch has a career stroke average of 74.65 and shot a career-low round of 67 his sophomore season. He has four-top 10 finishes in his career along with one individual championship. Welch was named All-Sun Belt in 2005-06 after a third place finish at the conference championship


Welch was named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List for the 2004-05 and 2005-06 academic years which is awarded to students with a 3.5-3.99 GPA.

To be nominated for the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or significant reserve on her team with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. District VI represents student-athletes in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
