RANCHO SANTA FE, California. - The bid for a shot at the NCAA Championship fell short for the No. 39 North Texas men's golf team in the final round of the NCAA West Regional. The Mean Green fired a final round of 297 and finished in ninth place. The top-five teams, UCLA, USC, San Diego, Ohio State, and Texas advanced to the NCAA Championship.
Rodolfo Cazaubon had the best finish of the tournament for North Texas with a score of 1-over par 217. Cazauon opened with a birdie, had three straight bogeys on 15, 16, and 17, but closed his final round out with birdies on eight and nine. Cazaubon finished in a tie for 12th place
Carlos Ortiz had his best day of the regional with a 1-under par 71. He had only one bogey on the day to go along with two birdies and 15 pars. Ortiz posted a 5-over par 221.
Ty Spinella shot a third round of 77 and shot a 6-over par 222 for the tournament. Curtis Donahoe struggled in the final round with an 80 and had a 228 while Josh Jones fired a 76 and carded a three-round score of 232.
The Mean Green's season ends at the regional, but North Texas advanced to the post-season for the first time since 2003.
