RANCHO SANTA FE, Cali. - The second round of the NCAA West Regional wasn't kind to the No. 39 North Texas men's golf team as they shot a 6-over par 294 and fell back into a tie for ninth place after 36 holes. However the Mean Green is only three shots behind San Diego for fifth place spot as the top five teams advance from the regional to the NCAA Championship.
Curtis Donahoe and Ty Spinella had the best rounds of the day for the Mean Green as they both fired 1-over par 73 on the day. Donahoe had an up and down round with five birdies and six bogeys. Spinella had four birdies on the day but his round was held back with a triple bogey on the 17th hole.
Spinella bounced back to birdie the final hole of the round. He is at 1-over par for the tournament and tied for 22nd place.
Rodolfo Cazaubon is at even-par 144 for the tournament after firing a second round of 74. Cazaubon remains in the top-20 as he is tied for 15th place. Carlos Ortiz also shot a 2-over par 74. Ortiz had three birdies in the round but two double bogeys held him back.
Josh Jones cut six strokes off his first round with a 3-over par 75 in his second round. Jones finished his round with an eagle.
The Mean Green trails Tulsa by one stroke, Middle Tennessee by two, Texas and San Diego by three strokes for the fifth place spot.
