C-USA Champs NT A No. 11 Seed In NCAA Tournament
Mean Green To Play In New Haven Regional
DENTON -- After capturing their first Conference USA title, the North Texas men's golf team is off to the NCAA Regional Tournament to play in the New Haven, Connecticut Regional as the No. 11 seed.
The Mean Green will play at The Course at Yale May 14-16. It is the 34th NCAA appearance in school history for North Texas.
North Texas is making its fourth NCAA appearance in the last five seasons. The Mean Green is going after its first NCAA Finals appearance in the modern era since finishing third at the championship in 1963. North Texas won four straight NCAA Tournament titles from 1949-52.
The Mean Green won the C-USA tournament title after winning the stroke play and then a grueling match play competition. NT knocked off Charlotte in the semifinals then No. 30 UAB to win the conference title. Juan Munoz won the individual title and was joined on the all-tournament team by Cory Churchman who finished tied for fifth place in the stroke play competition.
North Texas is in a regional with some of the nation's top teams. No. 5 Vanderbilt is the top seed, followed by No. 7 LSU, No. 16 South Florida, No. 20 Oklahoma State and No. 29 Arkansas.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
The finals will be conducted May 29-June 3, at The Concessions Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida.
