MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – It was a gutsy effort and for the first time in nearly 40 years the North Texas men’s golf team has won back-to-back conference championships. Trailing by one shot heading into the final round, the No. 38 team ranked in the country outlasted Georgia State down the stretch to win the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Championship by five shots.

Rodolfo Cazaubon came just short in his bid to win his fourth individual title of the year as he lost the medalist honors to Lane Hulse of South Alabama in a playoff. Cazaubon finished in second after firing a final round of 2-over par. Cazaubon and Hulse were the only two players to finish under-par as he was 2-under at 214 for the tournament.
Senior Carlos Ortiz delivered his best round of the tournament when it meant the most. After shooting 6-over par the first two days, Ortiz put up a 3-under 69 and soared into tie for fifth place.
Ortiz had five birdies on the day and two in the last five holes. Curtis Donahoe also finished in a tie for fifth place after shooting a third round of 1-over par 73. Both he and Ortiz shot a three-round score of 3-over par 219.
