Senior Cory Churchman Adds To His Accolades With All-Academic Honor
IRVING, Texas - North Texas senior Cory Churchman is one of five men's golf student-athletes to have been named to the 2017 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Men's Golf All-Academic Team, the conference office announced Thursday.
"Cory has been a great leader and player for us the last four years," head coach Brad Stracke said. "This is a well-deserved honor."
Heading into the Conference USA Championship, Churchman has an average round of 73.61 through his 10 tournaments and finished a season-best sixth twice this season, at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate and at The Hayt. Churchman carded three top-20 finishes, four rounds under 70 including a season-best 68 in the first round at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational. Holding a 3.575 GPA in finance, Churchman was named the 2015-16 C-USA Scholar Athlete Award winner for men’s golf and was tabbed Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar in August of 2016.
All five academic team members and 60 other individuals are scheduled to represent their teams at the 2017 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship April 23-26 at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Arkansas. Thirteen teams will compete in a three-day, 54-hole championship to determine the individual medalist. The top four teams will then be seeded for a match play playoff with the semifinals and championship to be conducted on the fourth day. The winning team gains the league's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Men's Golf Championship Regionals.
