Golf Opens Up First Day Of Sun Belt Championship

HOUSTON, Texas (4/20/09) – Nathan Sheen led the Mean Green men’s golf team on day one of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with a day one even-par 72 and North Texas is alone in 7th place heading into play Tuesday morning.

South Alabama (283) was the lone team to shoot under par and lead the championship by seven strokes over second place UALR and Arkansas State.

Clarke Kincaid also had a top-20 performance as he sits in a tie for 13th place with a first-round score of one-over par 72. Senior Harris Graham ended the day with a plus-three 75 and is tied with several competitors for 20th.

The North Texas women’s golf team sits in 9th place after day one with a 318 total. The Mean Green was led by junior Maggie Noel, who shot a 3-over par 72. Noel is currently tied for 8th heading into play on Tuesday. Jordan Rose posted a first round score of 80 followed by Addison Long’s 81. Janna Golden (82) and Kelsie Gray (88) rounded out the first day scores.

Defending conference champion Denver leads the field by a wide margin ( ), while Middle Tennessee and UALR are second and third respectively.

The second round of the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Championship continues tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
