JONESBORO, Ark. (Ridge Point C.C.) (4/15/02) Three North Texas golfers finished the opening day of competition at the ASU Indian Classic among the top 20 individual leaders, pacing the Mean Green to a fifth place standing after the first two rounds of action with a combined score of 588.
North Texas shot a 291 and 297 for the first two rounds, respectively. Zach Atkinson (So.; Irving, Tex.) shot a combined 144 (76-68) and is tied for fifth place. Atkinson shot a career-best 68 for the second round to post the lowest single-round score among all North Texas golfers. Thomas Kulcak (So.; Needville, Tex.) is currently tied for 12th place with a total score of 146 (69-77) and Michael Pruitt (Sr.; Idalou, Tex.) is tied for 19th place with a 147 (70-77).
South Alabama leads the 13-team field with a score of 573 and Arkansas State is in second place after shooting a 580. South Florida rounds out the top three leaders with a total score of 581, while North Texas trails fourth-place Missouri by just two strokes. Also members of the Sun Belt Conference, Louisiana-Lafayette is in seventh place (594) and Arkansas-Little Rock is in eighth place (596).
The tournament’s final round is set to get under way at 8 AM tomorrow.
