JONESBORO, Ark. (4/12/04)- The North Texas men's golf tied shot a first round one-under par 287 and is in a four-way tie for first place at the ASU Indian Golf Classic at Ridge Pointe Country Club. Junior Reid McPherson tied his career-best round with a first round 69, three under par, and is tied for third place to pace North Texas.
"I thought that we played a very solid round of golf today," said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. "We were a little shorthanded today but the guys came out and played some of the best golf of the season today".
The tournament was shortened to only 36 holes after rain cancelled the first round of play. The Mean Green were also forced to play with only four golfers today after senior Brad Gibson pulled out of the first round with an injury. Despite the obstacles North Texas, the defending champion of the tournament, is tied with Iowa State, Southern Mississippi, and South Florida after the first day.
Senior Zach Atkinson and Jason Lindgren both fired one-under par scores of 71 and Weston Bingham carded a first round score of 76.
The final round starts at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start from the Ridge Pointe Country Club.
